KATE MARLAIS

Having started her performance career as a singer in classical choirs, Kate knows that there is nothing quite like the joy of group singing, from bother sides of the conductor's chair.
She is an experienced Vocal Director, leading various choirs and choruses of all levels, most notably CHORUS OF OTHERS in Lyric Hammersmith's production of Frantic Assembly's FATHERLAND, for which the community chorus was initially created. Kate most recently led and conducted the Chorus Of Others' rousing finale at Frantic Assembly's 25th Anniversary take-over on National Theatre's River Stage. See footage HERE.
Kate has taught Acting Through Song and Singing Technique at LAMDA since 2019, and has frequently worked as Musical Director/Musical Arranger on various LAMDA productions, including Earthquakes In London, The Last Days Of Judas Iscariot, Heresy Of Love and Emilia.
Kate is also a Masterclass and Workshop Leader. She has led workshops in Songwriting, Composing For Musical Theatre, and Developing Your Creative Practise across the UK at various arts institutions, including for City Academy London, Mercury Musical Developments, Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, Wolverhampton University Faculty of Arts & Cumbria University.
Alongside Georgia Stitt - the distinguished US musical theatre composer and founder of MAESTRA, a US initiative for female and non-binary musicians working in musical theatre - in affiliation with Kate's UK platform for female composers MODULATE, in 2019 Kate led a masterclass for female composers writing for musical theatre, facilitated by Mercury Musical Developments.
Kate runs ARTIST LAB X LONDON with Karoline Gable (previous Head of Music and Foundation Course at LAMDA, performer and director) - a series of Masterclasses for Actors, Singers and Creatives. Recent work includes Creative Development workshops at Leeds Conservatoire.
